Lake Travis view from the Oasis
The Oasis View

Austin, TX

We recently had the opportunity to visit Austin, TX for a conference.  Austin is the capital of Texas and the 2nd largest state capital in the United States after Phoenix, AZ.  It adopted the “Silicon Valley” nickname in the 90’s being the development home to many technology corporations.  Currently, the official slogan is the “Live Music Capital of the World” due to the number of live music venues and vocalists in the area.  Austin residents are referred to as “Austinites”.

Things to do:

Lake Travis is located in the rolling hills right outside of Austin and has been around since 1941.  The lake is more than 60 miles long and is popular for water sports.  It’s also a good fishing spot with black and white striped bass being a main catch.

Where to Eat:

The Oasis is a multi-level restaurant that serves a variety of foods, including mexican options.  We ate dinner on the patio overlooking Lake Travis.  Wow-what an AMAZING view!

McCormick and Schmick’s in Austin is known for Seafood & Steaks.  The “Apple Miso Sea Bass” was delicious and “The Chocolate Bag” (White Chocolate Mousse and Fresh Berries topped with whipped cream) was perfect for dessert!
